WHAT TO EXPECT IN LESLIE’S WORKSHOP WEEKEND:

This highly interactive workshop series invites both students and teachers to bring their questions about asana—whether it’s refining personal practice or exploring ways to communicate movement effectively. Leslie fosters an experimental, hands-on atmosphere of curiosity and discovery, encouraging participants to explore alignment, safety, and cueing in a way that deepens understanding for everyone.

A 3 PART WORKSHOP

  • In this highly interactive session Leslie will help put your asana practice on a solid foundation literally from the ground up. Topics include:

    • Functional principles of alignment and healthy movement

    • Breath-centered, anatomically-based cueing

    • The relationship of breath and bandha to support and movement

    • Why instructions like “tuck your tail,” “lengthen your spine,” “square your hips” may be doing more harm than good.

    • The use of gazing (drishti) and imagery to foster increased neuromuscular integration

    • Simple, applicable principles of adaptation and modification of asana

  • This visually-rich workshop will present a wealth of anatomical evidence that confirms the absolute uniqueness of each individual. From the shape of our bones, to the tapestry of our myofascia and organs, we will explore the inner landscape of our singular structure and function through guided asana, vinyasa, imagery and inquiry. Particular attention will be paid to how diverse body proportions affect our ability to do certain poses, and how each of us uniquely breathes affects our available range of motion.

We will explore how each individual has a different experience of basic poses within a group class that allows for these differences. Ample time will be devoted to simple breath and alignment modifications that can help you connect with your own unique structure, and thus make your practice safer and more effective.  Open to all levels, some cadaver lab imagery will be shown.

NOTE: This class breaks for lunch between 11 - 1230PM. (actual curriculum time: 5hrs)

  • Base of Support, Center of Gravity, Range of Motion – this is Leslie’s signature hierarchy of key considerations when consciously constructing a yoga pose. If the base is not stable, there is no foundation upon which to build. If there is no organized center of mass, there is no balance or efficient relationship to gravity. If the prior two factors are not integrated, the body’s natural range of motion will be compromised, and reaching for the maximum expression of a pose can become unsafe.

In this session, we will look through the lens of BOS-COG-ROM as we dive deeply into any questions you may have about your practice. In doing so, we will learn how to prioritize specific adaptations and adjustments to better suit your individual needs.

This session is open to all levels, and is especially appropriate for you if you are recovering from or trying to prevent injury in your practice and daily life.

NOTE: This class breaks for lunch between 11 - 1230PM. (actual curriculum time: 5hrs)
