This highly interactive series of workshops rely on students to bring questions about their own asana practice and teaching language. Leslie promotes an experimental, experiential atmosphere of inquiry regarding the teaching of alignment, safety and effective cueing of asana.

A weekend with Leslie Kaminoff (Friday)

Leslie Kaminoff is a yoga educator inspired by the tradition of T.K.V. Desikachar. He is an internationally recognized specialist with four decades’ experience in the fields of yoga and breath anatomy. He leads workshops for many of the leading yoga associations, schools and training programs in the world.

This November, join his 3-day workshop exploring structural diversity, non-linear asana, and building poses from the ground up.

Friday kicks off with: Non-Linear Asana Flow – Escaping the Tyranny of the Rectangle:

The basic geometries of classic asana are a great starting point for practicing the physical aspect of yoga, just as learning scales is a necessary foundation for playing music on a piano. This is a workshop that will encourage us to tune into the music of our bodies. By connecting with the spirals, fluids and asymmetries inherent in our organic forms, we will practice in a way that seeks more joy and balance. When we honor the complementary forces of order and chaos, inquiry and technique, form and function, the physical practice becomes a living, breathing expression of the deeper truths of Yoga.

This workshop is open to all students, of every level.  You will be led through simple, breath-centered movements and poses, as well as being encouraged to improvise freely in a series of non-structured inquiries.  Time will be allotted to individual questions and modifications.

A weekend with Leslie Kaminoff (Saturday)

Leslies follows his Friday Workshop with a Saturday offering that promises not to disappoint!

Bones, Muscles and Structural Diversity

This visually-rich workshop will present a wealth of anatomical evidence that confirms the absolute uniqueness of each individual. From the shape of our bones, to the tapestry of our myofascia and organs, we will explore the inner landscape of our singular structure and function through guided asana, vinyasa, imagery and inquiry. Particular attention will be paid to how diverse body proportions affect our ability to do certain poses, and how each of us uniquely breathes affects our available range of motion.

We will explore how each individual has a different experience of basic poses within a group class that allows for these differences. Ample time will be devoted to simple breath and alignment modifications that can help you connect with your own unique structure, and thus make your practice safer and more effective.  Open to all levels, some cadaver lab imagery will be shown.

NOTE: This class breaks for lunch between 11 - 1230PM. (actual curriculum time: 5hrs)

A weekend with Leslie Kaminoff (Sunday)

Last but certainly not least, Leslie will wrap up the weekend with one of his most powerful workshops! You won’t want to miss this one.

BOS-COG-ROM – How to Build an Asana from the Ground Up

Base of Support, Center of Gravity, Range of Motion – this is Leslie’s signature hierarchy of key considerations when consciously constructing a yoga pose. If the base is not stable, there is no foundation upon which to build. If there is no organized center of mass, there is no balance or efficient relationship to gravity. If the prior two factors are not integrated, the body’s natural range of motion will be compromised, and reaching for the maximum expression of a pose can become unsafe.

In this session, we will look through the lens of BOS-COG-ROM as we dive deeply into any questions you may have about your practice. In doing so, we will learn how to prioritize specific adaptations and adjustments to better suit your individual needs.

This session is open to all levels, and is especially appropriate for you if you are recovering from or trying to prevent injury in your practice and daily life.

NOTE: This class breaks for lunch between 11 - 1230PM. (actual curriculum time: 5hrs)
