Just one?! Impossible. I think I can narrow it down to TWO pieces of nonfiction haha. The first would be Educated by Tara Westover, it’s a memoir that is so beautifully written that it moves the story beyond the paper. It proves not only the importance and value of education but the power of it. It’s incredibly inspiring and profound to the perpetual and forever student that I see in myself and many others around me.
The second piece would be Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert - a book to inspire personal creativity in oneself. Creativity is Big Magic, we can’t touch it, smell it, taste it, yet - it exists. To acknowledge that - to tap into it - to ask for it. These are all things we should all be doing. Creativity is what drives us, if one isn’t fortunate enough to do it for a living, how else can we find it in our lives? Dancing, drawing, knitting, yoga, all these things - these are what make our lives shine. The book is very special to me, it somehow captures what Big Magic is in words and puts them on a page. I highly recommend this piece to anyone and everyone.

I like to think I’m a simple girl and honestly, this probably won’t be a very exciting answer because of that. So here we go! A dream day? All I could ever ask for would be a breezy day, a cozy sweater type of weather day. I would have nothing pressing to do of course. I would maybe meet a friend for coffee, have a good book to read outside, some yummy food for lunch. Maybe some shopping. Of course, a nice hot movement class to get some sweat on and endorphins flowing. Topped off with some more good food for dinner with good company and plenty of laughs. To bed and sleeping soundly by 9pm and that is it! MAGICAL!

This might be a funny one…but after a really good Buti class, I know I went hard because when I come out of it I immediately go for those ice cold fruit punch Powerades in the cooler. Ha! They’re so refreshing! It might be the sugar but I can’t help it. It’s literally the only time I drink Powerades LOL.

I can take this one back to the first question - more Big Magic. While creativity might typically be associated with the arts, it's so much more than that. Finding creativity in movement has been so fulfilling, especially when it can tick more boxes off the self-care meter we all need to keep filled. While I completely believe there is Big Magic in abundance for everyone out there, we all get stuck sometimes. It can be really tough in those dark moments, where being able to access your creativity can begin to dim your light. I’ve been there, it’s an ebb and flow. We all visit those places…a lot, and that’s okay. In fact, it’s natural and should be expected. So while I may wish I had that magic superpower to access that Big Magic whenever I want to…I know in my heart that we have to ebb and flow for a reason. Coming out of that tough spot will only push me to find Big Magic in other ways. So I guess in a way, it’s good I don’t have superpowers.
What great questions!!! Thank you so much for asking me to be a part of this, it was quite cathartic and reminds me that I need to get back to journaling. I’m so happy to be a part of such a wonderful SOMOS team that supports and lifts one another up.
